Further are compounds like Lith. pùt-pela, Latv. putpele 'Wachtel'. In Slavic the diminutives OCS pъtica, SCr. ptȉca, Ru. ptíca 'Vogel' and SCr. pȁtka 'Ente'. The Proto-Balto-Slavic word for 'bird' has no plausible connections outside of Balto-Slavic.
