Chantraine 1968–1980:377, Beekes 2010:468).

S.v. ἔρχομαι 'to come', also 'to go, travel'. The precise Indo-European etymology is debated. Possible connection with PIE *h₁ergʰ- (cf. OIr. eirg [imptv.] 'go!', regaid [fut.] 'he will go', Skt. r̥ghāyáti 'tremble, rage', possibly within Greek as an iterative ὀρχέομαι 'dance' < *h₁orgʰ-éi̯e-) or PIE *h₁er- (cf. Ved. r̥ccháti 'to reach, arrive at', Hitt. arške/a- [iter.] 'to reach repeatedly, make incursions'.)
- Chantraine, Pierre: 377
S.v. AGk. ἔρχομαι 'aller, venir', sometimes 'marcher', without certain etymology.
- Rix, Helmut: 238
S.v. *h₁er- 'wohin gelangen, geraten' (IEW 326-9). LIV² reconstructs a preform *h₁r̥-sk̑e/o- for the Greek forms (= Ved. r̥ccháti 'erreicht, trifft, gerät in', OPers. -arsatiy 'kommt', Hitt. āraškizzi 'gelangt, wiederholt hin').
