  • Beekes, Robert: 518
S.v. ἧμαρ 'day' < PIE *Heh₂mer-. Attic ἡμέρα was the result of a secondary derivation. The Armenian form awr reflects a form *amōr, which may be found in the Mycenaean attestation of a-mo-ra-ma /āmōr-āmar/ 'day after day'.
  • Chantraine, Pierre: 412
S.v. ἦμαρ. The earlier consonant stem ἦμαρ found in Mycenaean Greek and Homer was replaced by Attic-Ionic ἡμέρα, which had been remodelled as a feminine ā-stem noun. The aspiration found in the Attic form only (West Greek, Arcadian, Lesbian, etc. ἀμέρα) usually considered to be analogical on the basis of ἑσπέρα 'evening'.
  • Clackson, James: 96-97
    Cf. s.v. *ām-r/n 'day'.
  • Martirosyan, Hrach: 156
S.v. Arm. awr 'day; time, age', connected with Gk. ἦμαρ, Arc. ἆμαρ, -ατος 'day', Att. ἠμέρα 'day', etc. and is likely to reflect earlier *āmōr from PIE *Heh₂m-ōr.
