Traditionally considered cognate with Proto-Germanic *hakan- 'hook' (ESSJa 10:109-110, Vasmer 1986-1987 2:275, cf. Kluge 2011:387), although extra-Germanic connections to the Germanic comparanda are doubted by Kroonen 2013:203 on the basis of formal difficulties. Not in [Derksen 2008].
