Cognate Set 5950 – Meaning: hard

IE-CoR reference form:
pind
IE-CoR reference language:
Armenian: Classical
Ideophonic:
no
Parallel derivation:
no
Justification:
Of uncertain origin, possibly an Iranian loanword (Olsen 1999:965, cf. HAB IV:82). Martirosyan 2010:552 considers the proposed etymology to PIE *bʰendʰ- 'to bind, fasten', but this requires the assumption of Grassmann's Law in Armenian, for which there are no other parallel examples.
