- IE-CoR reference form:
- pind
- IE-CoR reference language:
- Armenian: Classical
- Ideophonic:
- no
- Parallel derivation:
- no
- Justification:
- Of uncertain origin, possibly an Iranian loanword (Olsen 1999:965, cf. HAB IV:82). Martirosyan 2010:552 considers the proposed etymology to PIE *bʰendʰ- 'to bind, fasten', but this requires the assumption of Grassmann's Law in Armenian, for which there are no other parallel examples.

"Initial p- points to Grassmann's Law. Although we have no further secure examples of this law in Armenian … I see no compelling reasons for rejecting this etymology."
