- According to Kroonen 2013:257, Old English huntian continues a Proto-Germanic weak verb *hūnton- as though from PIE *⁽k̑⁾n̥t-néh₂-, an iterative formation to Proto-Germanic *hinϸan- 'to reach for' and connects further to Proto-Germanic *handu- 'hand' as though from PIE *⁽k̑⁾ont-ú-, although there are no certain cognates outside of Germanic; cf. also Lehmann 1986:122 and discussion to Proto-Germanic *handu- 'hand' in cognate set 234.
