Cognate Set 6370 – Meaning: bite

IE-CoR reference form:
*h₁ed-
IE-CoR reference language:
Proto-Indo-European
Ideophonic:
no
Parallel derivation:
no
Proposed as cognate to:
*Hd-ónt- [Proto-Indo-European] scale: 3
Justification:
Possibly cognate with 'bite' in cognate set 4968 if IE *Hd-ónt- 'tooth' is ultimately derived from *h₁ed- *'bite' → 'eat', cf. notes to 'tooth' in cognate set 328 for further discussion. In any case the denominal verbs in cognate set 4968 are a secondary replacement from the inherited primary verbal stem derived from *h₁ed-.
