S.v. Tocharian AB tsāk- 'to pierce, bite', belonging either with Gk. δάκνω or PIE *dʰei̯Hgʷʰ- 'hineinstecken, stechen'.
  • Ringe and A., Donald and Jr.: 71
Argues for an etymology from *dʰei̯Hgʷ- 'sting' rather than *denk̑- 'bite' [cognate set 1456](cog-1456), as frequently proposed elsewhere.
  • Rix, Helmut: 117-118, 142
Cf. s.v. *denk̑- 'beißen' (IEW 201) and *dʰei̯Hgʷ- 'hineinstecken, stechen' (IEW 243-244). According to the Tocharian evidence *Η should be either *h₂ or *h₃ (cf. n1).
