labs [(Baltic)] scale: 3
Justification:
Etymology uncertain. No connection to Lithuanian lãbas, etc., as suggested by Hübschmann 1897:451 is accepted by Fraenkel 1962–1965 or ALEW (cf. cognate set 678). Clackson 1994:181-182 likewise finds Hübschmann's proposed connection to Gk. λωΐων doubtful. Arm. law seems to be etymologically isolated.

  • Clackson, James: 181-182
Considers the etymological connection of Arm. լաւ law with Gk. λωΐων doubtful, following Hübschmann.
  • Hübschmann, H.: 451
S.v. 168. լաւ law. Hübschmann proposed two possible comparisons: either to Gk. λωίων 'better' (from *λωϝιων)? or to Lith. lãbas 'good' [cognate set 678](cog-678), but Hübschmann marks both with '?' to indicate that both are uncertain proposals.
