Cognate Set 9969 – Meaning: neck
- IE-CoR reference form:
- *kamā-
- IE-CoR reference language:
- Proto-Iranic
- Ideophonic:
- no
- Parallel derivation:
- no
- Justification:
- Iranic lexemes continuing *kamā- 'neck', cf. Sogdian qmʾ 'neck, throat', perhaps also Wakhi kâmī́, Sanglechi kamák 'back'. Connections to either cognate set 2293 or the root *kamp- 'bend' (cf. ESIJa:IV 197) are phonologically doubtful as loss of the labial/liquid is unexplained (Kümmel, p.c.).
