S.v. Proto-Iranian *hu̯ar¹ 'consume, eat'. The root is probably secondary to Proto-Iranian *hu̯ar³ 'to take'. Further IE connections are uncertain and postulating a PIE root *su̯el- (as in LIV², IEW) is probably unwarranted.

Cf. s.v. ?2.*su̯el- '(ver)schlucken' (IEW 1045). Only Iranian (cf. YAv. xᵛaraiti 'ißt, trinkt'), so the Indo-European root reconstruction is only hypothetical.

Bactrian χοαρ-/χοαρδο 'have, possess, take (possession of); eat' < Proto-Iranian *hwara-/hwarta- (cf. Khot. kvar-/hvaḍa- 'consume, eat' Tumshuqese hvārya- 'to be taken').
