Cf. s.v. Proto-Iranian *ātr-, *ātar- 'огонь' and derivatives, from PIE *āter-/*ātr- (cf. Lat. āter 'черный, темный'), based on an IE root *ā- or *ai- 'светить, гореть'.
Cf. s.v. PIE *h₂eh₁- 'heiß sein' (not in IEW).
Root reconstruction *h₂eh₁- follows LIV², cf. ESIJa for extensive discussion of the Iranian forms from this root. PIE *h₂eh₁- is probably related to the root *h₂eh₁s- in [cognate set 178](cog-178) with an s-extension of the root.
