References
  • Kloekhorst, Alwin: 234-235
Cf. s.v. Hitt. eka- 'cold, frost, ice', from PIE *iég-o- (cf. OIr. aig, gen. ega 'ice', MCorn. yeyn 'cold', ONor. jaki 'ice-floe', jökull 'glacier'), from which ekae-/ikae- 'to cool down' is a denominal verb.
  • Pokorny, Julius: 503
    Cf. s.v. *i̯eg- 'Eis'.
  • Scarborough, Matthew:
Indo-Iranian-Nuristani cognates from *yaja- 'cold' (cf. Turner 1962-1966:601, 'ice' in [cognate set 2741](cog-2741), 'cold' in [cognate set 982](cog-982)) probably imply a reconstruction *i̯eg̑- with a palatovelar.
  • Turner, Ralph Lilley: 601
Cf. s.v. 10396 *yaja- 'cold' [IE. *yeg̑- 'ice' IEW 503?] (cf. Kt. yūċ 'cold', Pr. (y)ǖzu. Wg. yū̆z, yoz → Kal. Kho. yoz [→Wkh. yaz]).
