- References
- Bailey, Harold Walter: 437
S.v. syandaa- 'of the left side', from Iranian *sai- 'be unfavourable' > 'left-side' (cf. Gk. σκαιός, Lat. scaeuus).
- Beekes, Robert: 1339
Cf. s.v. Gk. σκαιός 1 'left, western', from PIE *skeh₂-i-uo- which is formally and semantically identical with Lat. scaeuus 'left, inauspicious'; possibly identical with σκαιός 2 'shady' (cf. σκία 'shadow' [cognate set 5058](cog-5058)).
